SYDNEY MARSHALL

During my 3 years in the Norcross volleyball program, I was coached by some of the toughest coaches I have ever had. The staff pushed me mentally and physically every single practice to leave the gym better than I came in. For me, the Norcross volleyball program shaped me to be a smart, aggressive, and passionate player. Being apart of the program impacted my life beyond high school. I received the dream opportunity to continue playing in college. After playing my first year, I can say that every skill I have came from my high school coaching staff. Once you reach the next level you are expected to know everything already, and I believe my coaches prepared me enough to be ready for that. For future and current players at Norcross High School, trust the system. Each and every coach pushing you knows exactly what they are doing.

LINDSAY HOLMES
|
Another former Lady Blue Devil volleyball player has continued to pursue her sports career at the next level! Former Libero, Lindsay Holmes, is now part of the inaugural volleyball team at Georgia College. The opening match of the season and the program took place on September 5, 2013. The home stands were packed in Milledgeville when the Bobcats took on Fort Valley State. Lindsay signed with Georgia College during the spring of her senior year (2013), earning a scholarship in the process, and is excited to be a part of history with the program. Lindsay will be playing DS and Libero for her new team as she studies at the Liberal Arts institution. As of yet, she has not declared her major.
Per Lindsay, "Norcross was really my foundation for success now that I'm in college playing a sport I'm very passionate about. My four years in the Norcross Volleyball Program taught me so much as an athlete and as an individual. I learned about working hard, never being satisfied with a good day, and always wanting to better myself as a player and a person. The whole coaching staff is incredible and unique, and really cares about everyone in the program. Coach Cerneka really taught me a lot about playing libero by taking me out of my comfort zone and forcing me to be a leader on and off the court. He was really inspirational to me with his random Pomona stories that made me realize that I can be successful coming out of any situation I'm put in, whether it's a game or a real life situation. Overall, my experience with Norcross Volleyball is easily one I'll never forget and I'll always be a part of the Norcross Program regardless if I'm 1,000 miles away or just 1." |
HANNAH NELSON
|
Hannah Nelson, a 2008 Norcross High School graduate, excelled on and off the court. She was a four year starter, a 1stTeam All-Gwinnett County player, and an outstanding student. She then attended Georgia Southern University on a volleyball scholarship where she was a three year starter and led her team to a conference title. Hannah exemplifies the best qualities of the Norcross volleyball players. Each year, our program recognizes a senior who demonstrates leadership, commitment, selflessness, and passion for volleyball, and honors them with the Nelson Award.
"Being a student-athlete at Norcross High School shaped me into a hard-working and dedicated individual . . . The court is where I gave 100% all the time making sure I did everything I could to better myself as an athlete, which helped better the team as well." -Hannah Nelson |
