Head Coach - Jeff Cerneka
Assitant Coach - April Carroll
Coach Cerneka teaches Health and Physical Education at Norcross High School.
He is a graduate of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in Pomona, California with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education. He earned his master's degree in Master of Arts in Teaching from the National University in San Diego.
Coach Cerneka is in his 15th year as head volleyball coach at the high school level and 7th at Norcross High School. He has led the varsity to 4 area championships and 2 Elite 8 appearances in the state playoffs during his 6 year tenure. Another proud highlight of the program and symbol of our success is that 9 girls have gone to play collegiately. Developing players who attract interest from colleges and universities is a goal of our coaching staff and we look forward to continuing that trend for our student-athletes. In addition to coaching at Norcross High School, Coach Cerneka also has coached for GA5 Volleyball Club in Suwanee, GA.
Prior to coming to Norcross, he was the Head Volleyball Coach at Pomona High School in Southern California for 8 years. His highlights at Pomona High included 3 league championships and 17 girls who continued to play at the collegiate level. Furthermore, he had the opportunity to work with Crush N Stuff Volleyball Club and Starlings Volleyball Club in California.
Among Coach Cerneka's goals are to continue to build on the program’s ascending success; to foster a positive ‘team’ culture throughout the program; and to facilitate a love for the sport of volleyball.
Coach Cerneka is married and has 3 children.
Coach Carroll obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Norfolk State University graduating magna cum laude and earned her Masters of Science degree in Chemistry from Loyola University Chicago graduation summa cum laude. When she moved to Georgia, she continued her education by obtaining a Regulatory Affairs Certificate from the University of Georgia. She has been in the animal, cosmetic, or the biologics pharmaceutical industry for thirteen years.
Coach Carroll has been playing volleyball for over 20 years. During college, her hard work provided her the honor of being named Female Athlete of the Year and was presented the aware by Mike Tirico from ESPN. Along with other awards, she was named MVP for 2 consecutive years and on the All-Academic team during her entire volleyball tenure.
During her eleven years of coach, Coach Carroll has trained numerous atheletes to play at the next level including Marquette, University of Kentucky, University of Miami, and the University of Cincinnati. After coaching in Chicago for 5 years, Coach Carroll moved to Georgia and coached at Atlanta Boom Volleyball Institute for 7 years acting as the Assistant Coaching Director for 2 years and currently with GA5 Volleyball Club for the past 3 years acting as the Director and Recruiting Coordinate for the past 2 years.
In between coaching and playing, Coach Carroll still finds time to be the official scorekeeper for Kennesaw State University since their inaugural year of 2006.
Coach Carroll is very excited to be a part of the Norcross family and is looking forward to being a positive influence for the young ladies on and off the court. In her first year, 2013, her team rallied at the end of the year to take the Gwinnett County Tournament Championship.
Head Coach - Karen Murray
Karen Murray has played and coached volleyball for over 30 years. Her professional coaching career began in 1994 as Head Coach for Division II Merrimack College (Amhurst, MA) and took a traditionally winless program to a respectable adversary in just 2 years. Once relocated to Georgia, Murray began coaching again with Suwanee Sports Academy clinics and the Vertical One Volleyball Club 15 - 1's team in 2005 and most recently was Assistant Coach for GA5's 18-2's team. She has volunteered her time and coaching expertise to Peachtree Corners Baptist Church middle school league 2007 - present and has been part of the Norcross High staff since 2009. At Norcross she has served as Head JV Coach in 2009, Interim Head Varsity Coach in 2010, and Head JV Coach 2011-Present. In 2009, her JV squad won the Gwinnett County Championship. In 2011, JV was on the County Silver Bracket, and 2012 JV won their Area Tournament, came in 2nd in the Gwinnett County Championships and finished an impressive 32-6 overall. In 2013, the team went 27-4, winning the Gwinnett County Tournament as well as the Area Tournament for the second consecutive year.
Coach Murray is a proud to be a member of the Norcross/Peachtree Corners community. She often substitute teaches at Simpson Elementary as well as works part-time as an independent software consultant. Murray also owns Peachtree Volleyball, a company offering camps, clinics and private lessons to players of all ages. She is married to Brian Murray and has 2 children in the Norcross Cluster of the Gwinnett County Public Schools.
In 2014, the JV squad went 27-11, winning their Area Tournament for the 3rd consecutive year
Head Coach - Sarah Miller
Assistant Coach - Lindsay Holmes
Coach Miller graduated magna cum laude from University of Georgia with a degree in Middle Grades Education - Math and Science. She is also a recent graduate of Western Governors University with her Master's in Mathematics Education. She has been playing volleyball for over 10 years and in her fourth year of coaching for the Norcross Blue Devils. Coach Miller teaches Algebra I at Norcross High School and is the lead of her curriculum team. In between coaching, teaching, and graduate classes, Coach Miller spends time with her husband, family, and puppies, Jax and Tara.
Coach Miller found success for the Freshmen Volleyball team in 2015.

Coach Holmes is a Peachtree Corners native and was a 2013 graduate of Norcross High School. She grew up playing soccer and tennis, but found her love for volleyball in middle school. Her volleyball career started in 7th grade and continued on to the high school level playing on the Freshmen team. As a junior, Coach Holmes was a member of Coach Cerneka's first year varsity team at Norcross.
Fortunately, she was able to continue her volleyball career at the collegiate level. She was Coach Cerneka's first scholarship athlete in his tenure at Norcross, and she was the school's second scholarship athlete ever to come from the volleyball program. Coach Holmes played all four years at Georgia College and State University and was able to earn the honor of being a captain her senior year. Coach Holmes is a recent May 2017 graduate of Georgia College with a bachelor's degree in exercise science and a minor in physical education. Coach Holmes plans to attend graduate school to obtain a master's degree in occupational therapy within the next couple of years.
While this may be Coach Holmes's first year as an official coach, she has lots of experience teaching girls the sport of volleyball at all levels. In college, she was a coach/counselor for annual summer volleyball camps hosted by the Georgia College Volleyball Program for beginners as well as for skilled athletes pursuing a college scholarship. Outside of coaching, you can find Coach Holmes running, playing tennis, or walking her dog, Lilly!
