Coach Cerneka teaches Health and Physical Education at Norcross High School.
He is a graduate of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in Pomona, California with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education. He earned his master's degree in Master of Arts in Teaching from the National University in San Diego.
Coach Cerneka is in his 16th year as head volleyball coach at the high school level and 9th at Norcross High School. He has led the varsity to 5 region championships and 2 Elite 8 appearances in the state playoffs during his 8 year tenure. Another proud highlight of the program and symbol of our success is that 13 girls have gone to play collegiately. Developing players who attract interest from colleges and universities is a goal of our coaching staff and we look forward to continuing that tradition for our student-athletes. In addition to coaching at Norcross High School, Coach Cerneka also has coached for GA5 Volleyball Club in Suwanee, GA.
Prior to coming to Norcross, he was the Head Volleyball Coach at Pomona High School in Southern California for 7 years. His highlights at Pomona High included 3 league championships and 17 girls who continued to play at the collegiate level. Furthermore, he had the opportunity to work with Crush N Stuff Volleyball Club and Starlings Volleyball Club in California.
Among Coach Cerneka's goals are to continue to build on the program’s success; to foster a positive ‘team’ culture throughout the program; to compete at the highest level; and to facilitate a love for the sport of volleyball.
Coach Cerneka is married and has 3 children.
Coach Tracey currently teaches first grade at Stripling Elementary School in Norcross.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Florida International University in Miami, FL.
Coach Tracey began her journey with volleyball at the age of 10 when she began club volleyball in south Florida. She continued to hone her skills while developing a passion and love of volleyball as she played throughout high school. She was awarded first and second team all-state during her junior and senior years respectively and would ultimately be recruited as one of the top 50 recruits coming out of high school in all of Florida.
She would continue to foster her love of volleyball as she went on to play on full scholarship for FIU as a setter. During her time at FIU she furthered her growth developing a strong foundational understanding of commitment and what it means to be in a successful culture.
Coach Tracey’s life-long passion of the sport has brought her to coaching which provides her the opportunity to share her love of volleyball with others. She is currently in her third year with North Atlanta Volleyball Club and excited to begin her first season working with a high school program.
Her goals for this season are to help drive a culture of excellence at practice and matches by creating a positive environment that is both challenging and rewarding for each athlete and the team as a whole.
Alyssa Munlyn is a former collegiate Middle Blocker from Suwanee, Ga.
Her journey with volleyball began during her freshman year at North Gwinnett High School and she soon developed a love and passion for the game. After her sophomore season, Coach Alyssa decided to take her volleyball career to the next level by playing club volleyball for A5 Pure Volleyball. During her high school career, she played for a National Championship in 17U Open with A5 and a State Championship her senior year at North Gwinnett. She was named 6A MVP following her junior and senior seasons and was rated as the No. 36 prospect nationally by PrepVolleyball.
Coach Alyssa attended the University of Missouri where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies in December of 2018. A few of her athletic accolades consist of 4x All American, 4x All-SEC Team member, and 2015 SEC Freshman of the Year. Coach Munlyn was honored as an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar in 2018, highlighting her successes in the classroom and on the court.
She is currently a mentor and coach for GA5 Volleyball Club and will be pursuing her masters in Positive Psychology starting in the Fall of 2019.
Head Coach - Karen Murray
Karen Murray has played and coached volleyball for over 30 years. Her professional coaching career began in 1994 as Head Coach for Division II Merrimack College (Amhurst, MA) and took a traditionally winless program to a respectable adversary in just 2 years. Once relocated to Georgia, Murray began coaching again with Suwanee Sports Academy clinics and the Vertical One Volleyball Club 15 - 1's team in 2005 and most recently was Assistant Coach for GA5's 18-2's team. She has volunteered her time and coaching expertise to Peachtree Corners Baptist Church middle school league 2007 - present and has been part of the Norcross High staff since 2009. At Norcross she has served as Head JV Coach in 2009, Interim Head Varsity Coach in 2010, and Head JV Coach 2011-Present. In 2009, her JV squad won the Gwinnett County Championship. In 2011, JV was on the County Silver Bracket, and 2012 JV won their Area Tournament, came in 2nd in the Gwinnett County Championships and finished an impressive 32-6 overall. In 2013, the team went 27-4, winning the Gwinnett County Tournament as well as the Area Tournament for the second consecutive year.
Coach Murray is a proud to be a member of the Norcross/Peachtree Corners community. She often substitute teaches at Simpson Elementary as well as works part-time as an independent software consultant. Murray also owns Peachtree Volleyball, a company offering camps, clinics and private lessons to players of all ages. She is married to Brian Murray and has 2 children in the Norcross Cluster of the Gwinnett County Public Schools.
In 2014, the JV squad went 27-11, winning their Area Tournament for the 3rd consecutive year
Head Coach - Solana Hood
Coach Hood was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She has been in the sport since 7th grade, where she played setter. In 8th grade, Coach Hood was also a member of the first team to win a district championship for her school. She traveled a lot in high school, playing at multiple schools - Episcopal High, Travis High, and Jake Yates Senior High.Over her years, she earned many records and awards including all-tournament player, most assists, most serving ace, and HISD 5 A MVP of the year. After high school, Coach Hood played a year at Alabama A&M University. Currently she is a vet nurse at Banfiled Pet Hospital and coaches the 15 National 2 team at Atlanta Extreme Volleyball Club. She helps out with the I9 program early Saturday mornings coaching beginner volleyball from the ages of 8-10. In her free time she enjoys working out, cooking, painting, and spending time outdoors with loved ones.
